Glass and Iron art
Traditional glass painters: Jacob Selmer and Ken Leap.
Meet the artist
Jacob Selmer is the owner and blacksmith at Selmer Ironworks where he studies and creates traditional metalwork. While studying medieval and gothic architecture, he found a glimpse into traditional stained glass .
Like ironwork, stained glass can remain in use for centuries, but once broken or discarded these arts are quickly lost to time. Stained glass art is permanently fragile.
Glass windows are hard to study. Surviving pieces are often mounted high on walls or guarded against close inspection. Pictures in books zoom way out and may show the overall cathedral windows, but details are lost.

Demonstrations
Close inspection of originals shows the brush strokes and personality of the artists from hundreds of years ago. Jacob’s focus is to bring this connection to medieval history and art into modern life.
The reproductions focus on the characters, animals, and scenes from the middle ages while using the original techniques.
Selmer Ironworks has now expanded to sharing historic glass and metalwork. For more information on the metalworking side of the shop, check out: www.SelmerIronworks.com
